Breeders and riders will be able to compete for a coveted rosette at the show on Saturday, July 31 when it will feature competitions for goats, cattle, sheep, and horses.

Cattle

The cattle section, sponsored by the Northeastern Farmersโ€™ Cooperative ANM Group, has eight sections: Alpine Cattle, Limousine, Shorthorn Beef, Aberdeen Angus, Charolais, Commercial Cattle, and other native and continental cattle breeds.

โ€œThis virtual show plays a key role for breeders by enabling them to demonstrate good quality stock,โ€ says John Angus, head of livestock at ANM Groupโ€™s Aberdeen and Northern Marts livestock division.

Both a Rawburn Aberdeen-Angus and Stephick Limousin herd will be judged. John Elliot junior from Kelso will judge the Aberdeen-Angus herd, and Stephanie Dick from Stirling will judge the Limousin herd.

In addition to Aberdeen-Angus, Beef Shorthorns, Highland cattle, and any other native cattle, John Elliot will judge them.ย

โ€œI will be looking for animals who are balanced and correct,โ€ said Mr. Elliot, who is judging native breeds. They must display the distinctive features of their breed.โ€

Ms. Dick said she will be looking for cattle that are mobile, noticeable in their breed characteristic, and that have a tiny bit of show ring style. She will judge commercial cattle and continental breed cattle.

Goats

Gordon Smith, an Angus stockman, and goat breeder will judge the goats at this high point event.ย

When judging, Mr. Smith looks for animals set to breed standards, that are smartly presented and have a dairy quality. He has judged all over the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

There are classes for dairy, Pygmy, and Boer goats in this section, which is sponsored by Squaring Circles, a dispute resolution company.

A founder of Square Circles, Rachael Bicknell, said, โ€œThe goat represents victory gained by diplomatic means rather than by force. That understanding is very central to our mission to resolve conflicts through negotiation and mediation.โ€.

โ€œOur very best wishes go out to all competitors.โ€
