Corn (Maize)

Corn, also known as maize, is one of the most versatile and widely cultivated crops in the world. Corn (Zea mays) was first domesticated over 9,000 years ago in southern Mexico from a wild grass called teosinte. Through centuries of selective breeding by indigenous peoples, it evolved into the high-yielding crop we know today. After European explorers brought corn to the rest of the world, it quickly became a staple food and a key component of agricultural systems worldwide.
